Response Journal #4

1. Ezra Pound.

2. [Greek]

By Ezra Pound

BE in me as the eternal moods
of the bleak wind, and not
As transient things are—
gaiety of flowers.
Have me in the strong loneliness 5
of sunless cliffs
And of gray waters.
Let the gods speak softly of us
In days hereafter,
the shadowy flowers of Orcus 10
Remember thee.

3. I think that this poem comes off as cute and sweet at first, but after thinking about it, it seems kind of sad. He is talking about all of these things and relating them to being "In the strong lonliness." I almost feel like he doesn't want to be forgotten when he dies, when he says "Let the gods speak softly of us in days hereafter," sounds like he is hoping that they remember to talk about him when he has passed.

4. I like this poem's simpleness. It may be complex to understand but I think that it is set up in him also maybe praying to someone, and it seems to be free verse. I don't like how this could be taken as a sad poem, because when you read it out loud it actually sounds really pretty!
