My 25 Poems

Winter
By Holly Black
http://endicottstudio.typepad.com/poetrylist/fairy_tale_poems/

Like coughing a bite of apple from a slender throat
Like a grandmother reborn from a wolf's belly
Like slipping a foot into a glass shoe
Like a frog prince thrown against a wall
We slough off the skin of the old year
And wait for what's underneath to toughen.

"once Upon A Time," She Said
By Jane Yolen
http://endicottstudio.typepad.com/poetrylist/fairy_tale_poems/

"Once upon a time," she said,
and the world began anew:a vee of geese flew by,
plums roasting in their breasts;
a vacant-eyed princess
sat upon a hillock of glass;
a hut strolled through a tangled wood,
the naisl on its chickenfeet
blackened and hard as coal;
a horse's head proclaimed advice
from the impost of an arch;
one maiden spoke in toads,
another in pearls,
and a third with the nighingale's voice.
If you ask me,
I would have to say
all the world's magic
comes directly from the mouth.

Witch
By Joseph Stanton
http://endicottstudio.typepad.com/poetrylist/fairy_tale_poems/

This forest heavy with dark humor
frames direst need into a candied home,
hispering lies of taffied architecture,
a sweetmeat trap for the lost or abandoned.

An oven is a place to warm the heart
for hags who favor giblets with their meals.
This witch loves to devour every part.
She likes to see to all the small details.

She smiles to show she has no grudge, no gripe.
Her hunger is the only thing she feels.
No malice makes her want to take your life.
Your bones she'll toss upon the apple peels.

Kiss
By Anonymous

I am sending you a kiss
That will land on your knee,
Climb up your leg.
Scramble over your back,
And hide in your hair.
Then, when you are about to fall asleep,
It will bite you gentily on your eck
And whisper in your ear,
"I love you."

Morning Poem
By Anonymous

Woke early one morning,
the early lay cool and still,
when suddenly a tiny bird,
perched on my window sill,
it sang a song so lovely,
so carefree ad so gay,
that slowly all my troubles,
began to slip away,
it sang of far off places,
of laughter and of fun,
it seemed his very song,
brought out the morning sun,
I pulled back the covers,
and crept slowly out of bed,
and gently shut the window,
and crushed his freaking head,
I'm not a morning person

Limerick To Old Men

As I grew older
I also grew bolder
and with all the young girls i did flirt.

My wife caught me eyeing,
And assistd my dying,
Now all I'll be eyeing is dirt!

Smiles
By Pauline Oliver
http://www.poetryamerica.com

If you had a sackful of smiles
And you knew they would fun out
Would you choose to use them wisely
Or freely give them out
What would be a fair exchange
For a smile from your sack
Would it be sufficient
To get a smile back
Would you keep them to yourself
For amusement and delight
Imagine...just a sackful of smiles
Would you really want that plight?

Friendship
By Adrianne S.
http://www.poetryamerica.com

A friend is like a flower,
a rose to be exact,
Or maybe like a brand new gate
that never comes unlatched.
A friend is like an owl,
both beautiful and wise.
Or perhaps a friend is like a ghost,
whose spirit never dies.
A friend is like a heart that goes
strong until the end.
Where would we be in this world
if we didn't have a friend.

Passing the Temple
By Wang Wei
http://www.poetryamerica.com

Tonight he walks with his light stick,
Stops by the Tiger Stream's source,
Asks us to listen to the mountain sound,
Goes home again by clear waters.
Endless blossoms in the stillness.
Bird-cries deep in the valleys.
Now he'll sit in empty hills.
In pine-winds, feel the touch of autumn.

Rain Rain
By James Horner

Rain rain
falls on the street,
mud in puddles
cleaning my feet.

Thunder thunder
rumble and roar,
close the windows
and lock the door.

Clouds clouds
black and gray,
heavy with water
to drop all day.

Sun sun
is breaking through,
clouds are moving,
the rain stops too.

Rainbow rainbow
across the sky,
see-through colors
tickle my eyes.

Light A Candle
By J

light a candle,
see ti glow,
watch it dance,
when you feel low,
think of me,
think of light,
I'll always be here,
day or night,
a candle flickers,
out of sight,
but in your heart,
I still burn bright,
think not of sadness,
that I'm not near,
think of gladness,
and joyous cheer,
I have not left,
I am not gone,
I'm here to stay
my little one,
so when you light a candle
and you see it glow
and you watch it dance
in your heart you'll know
that I would never leave you
even when you feel so blue
I'm sitting up here with the Lord
and now watching over you

A Dream For You
By Richard Netherland Cook

If I could dream
The dream I wanted too,
I would close my eyes,
And dream a dream for you.

I would give you all the world,
That you are deserving of,
And to you I would give
My everlasting love.

I would see to it,
That you were never sad.
And nothing in your life
Would ever happen bad.

I would wish for you,
All things would go your way,
And you would always be happy,
Each and every day.

In my dream
You would stay
Just as beautiful
As you are today.

Life for you would be as perfect
As the blueness of the sky,
and no one would ever hurt you,
Or ever make you cry.

I know it's just a dream,
But if dreams could come true,
I would close my eyes,
And dream a dream for you.

At The End
By Ed Meek
http://soundarya.wordpress.com/short-poems/at-the-end-by-ed-meek/

He was so old his bones seemed to swim in his skin.
And when I took his hand to feel his pulse
I felt yself drawn in. It was as faint
as the steps of a child
padding across the floor in sleppers,
and yet he was smiling.
i could almost hear a river
running beneath his breath.
The water clear and cold and deep.
He was ready and willing to wade on in.

It About You

By Corenthia A. Jones
http://www.poetryamerica.com/read_poems.asp?id=400157

You bring me joy
When I am down
Nothing can explain
What i feel, when I
Am nexto to you.
My thoughts of loving you
Will always be true.
The feelings I have for you
Make my life seem so new.
Every moment of the day I
Think about spending my life with you.
The thoughts I have I must tell you
There is no other person in
The world I would rather run to,
Than to you.

Only You
By Darnitia R. Mcgriff
http://www.positivethoughts.com/greeting_card_onlyyou.htm

A person can make you feel high,
A person can make you feel low.
But only you can decide,
Which way you want to go.

A person can hurt you mentally,
A person can hurt you physically.
But only you can place,
A limit on your abilities.

A person can cause drama,
A person can cause a situation.
But only you can create,
Your own reputation.

A person can make you laugh,
A person can make you cry.
But only you an make,
Decisions for your life.

I guess what I'm trying to say,
That when you're living day to day.
Don't live by what people do,
But live by what you know is true.
